Directions to West Point

Directions

From New York City

Non-Commercial Vehicles Only.

From Manhattan, cross George Washington Bridge and pick up the Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP) on the west side of the river.

Take the PIP all the way to the end (Bear Mountain Circle). After entering the circle, take the third exit to Route 9W North (to West Point).

Follow Route 9W North through Fort Montgomery (caution - reduced speed limit), and take the first exit at Route 218 (sign reads: Highland Falls/West Point/Route 218).

Proceed through the village of Highland Falls, keeping to the right to avoid the business district. Enter West Point at Thayer Gate (just beyond McDonald’s). You will need to go through a security check at the gate; enter through the left lane unless you have a Department of Defense decal on your vehicle.

All occupants in vehicle 16 years of age and older must present a valid government issued photo ID.

From West (I-84)

All Vehicles

Take Route I-84 East to Newburgh Exit, 10S.

Turn right at end of ramp onto Route 9W South.

Stay on Route 9W South for about 12 miles. You will go through the city of Newburgh and over Storm King Mountain. Make no turns off of Route 9W.

At the bottom of the mountain, take the second exit for West Point (right), Stony Lonesome Gate. As you come around the turn, go straight towards the security gate after the stop sign. There are two lanes; use the right lane unless you have a Department of Defense decal on your vehicle.

All occupants in vehicle 16 years of age and older must present a valid government issued photo ID.

From Stewart Airport

All Vehicles

Exit airport toward Route 207; at the light, turn left onto Route 207. Stay on this road through the next two traffic lights. After 3-4 miles, you will approach the Vails Gate/5 Corners intersection. Pass straight through to Route 32; you'll pass a McDonald's on the right.

Stay on Route 32 for about a mile. After going over Moodna Creek Bridge, take a left at the light onto Quaker Avenue.

After cresting the hill, take right exit to enter Route 9W South. Continue on Route 9W South for about 5-6 miles. You will go over Storm King Mountain.

At the bottom of the mountain, take the second exit for West Point (right), Stony Lonesome Gate. As you come around the turn, go straight towards the security gate after the stop sign. There are two lanes; use the right lane unless you have a Department of Defense decal on your vehicle.

From East via I-84

All Vehicles

Take MASS PIKE to Exit 9 (Sturbridge).

Pick up I-84 West. Take I-84 West to Newburgh Exit, 10S.

Turn right at end of ramp onto Route 9W South.

Stay on Route 9W South for about twelve miles. You will go through the city of Newburgh and over Storm King Mountain. Make no turns off of Route 9W.

Take Interstate 84 West to Newburgh Exit, 10S.

From North Via NYS Thruway

Take New York State THRUWAY SOUTH (Route 87).

Exit at Harriman, Exit #16

After toll, exit ramp to light, and follow signs to Route 6 East (left).

After cresting a long hill, bear left OFF Route 6 ONTO Route 293, continue on Route 293 for about seven miles.

Turn right onto Route 9W South. Continue on 9W South approximately ½ mile to next exit for West Point, Stony Lonesome Gate. As you come around the turn, go straight towards the security gate after the stop sign. There are two lanes; use the right lane unless you have a Department of Defense decal on your vehicle.

Take Route 9W South.

Take Route 9 South to Interstate 84 West

Take I-84 West to Newburgh Exit, 10S.

Follow signs for Route 6 East. After cresting a long hill, bear left off Route 6 onto Route 293. Continue on Route 293 (approx. seven miles).

Turn right onto Route 9W South. Continue on 9W South approximately ½ mile to next exit for West Point, Stony Lonesome Gate. As you come around the turn, go straight towards the security gate after the stop sign. There are two lanes; use the right lane unless you have a Department of Defense decal on your vehicle.

From New Jersey Via I-95 & Palisades Interstate Parkway

Non-Commercial Vehicles Only.

From I-95 (NJ Turnpike) travel north to Fort Lee, NJ to where it ntersects with PIP – Palisades Interstate Parkway.

Take the PIP all the way to the end (Bear Mountain Circle). After entering the circle, take the third exit to Route 9W NORTH (to West Point).

Follow Route 9W NORTH through Fort Montgomery (caution - reduced speed limit), and take the first exit at Route 218 (sign reads: Highland Falls/West Point/Route 218).
